Saint-Petersburg theatres are a whole world by themselves.
Connoisseurs of classical music are welcome to opera and ballet performances in the Mariinsky Theatre (famous in the whole world), the Bolshoy and the Maly Drama Theatres, the Musorgsky Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Alexandrovsky Theatre, the theatres "Litcedei", "Zazerkalye", "Mimigranti", and many others that significantly determine St. Peterburg's role as "the cultural capital of Russia".
In the same rank are the following splendid concert and music halls: the Glinka Academic Choir, the St. Peterburg Philarmonia Bolshoy Hall, the Grand Concert Hall "Oktyabrsky", the Old Music Hall, the Choir Chamber Hall, the Sports-Concert Complex, and others.
The best Russian and world companies come here with the tours: the Bolshoy, the New York Ballet, the Boris Eifman Ballet, and many others. A lot of experimental theatres are performing in the city, plenty of directors work with modern drama and fiction, contemporary staging and dance.
Together with the "adult" performances, Saint-Petersburg has a wide range of stagings for children. There are several special children drama theatres, including the Theatre of Young Spectator, the Theatre of Generations; some performances are staged in the Smaller Drama Theatre.
