As for the event tourism, it is relatively new in Russia. The events that can attract tourists to Russia are not very many so far. They will emerge in the nearest future as this task is set before the regional tourist authorities. In any event, organizing a tour to cover one or another event is easily performed by any hosting organization in Russia. However, going on such a tour has to be planned well ahead of time.
Among the events that may attract tourists to Russia there are large sport competitions (Kremlin Tennis Cup, hockey and football matches, the sports Northern celebration in the Murmansk region), cultural events (Moscow International Cinematography Festival, ethnic celebrations, for instance, Yakutian celebration of the coming summer, Yysakh, weeks of culture and art of different countries and peoples) and religious ones (Russian maslenitsa in Moscow). Anniversaries of different Russian cities (as the recent 300 hundred years anniversary of St. Petersburg) attract not only Russians but foreigners as well. The 9-th of May is the day for the participants of World War II to come to Moscow and celebrate the end of the war. In the recent years relatives of those who died and of German soldiers that survived in the war have had an opportunity to visit the graves of their friends and relatives in Russia.
The events that attract Russians are going on in summer in the south of Russia. These are the summer season opening carnivals in Gelendzhik and Anapa, musical and cinema festivals, etc. Such a type of tourism as pilgrimage is also developing at present. The reasons for its development often lie in events that are significant for secular society. There are certain memorial days which people come to celebrate in each of the Russian Orthodox centers, monasteries in Valaam and Solovki, in Moscow and Nizhni Novgorod regions.
Gastronomic tours are aimed at appreciating the peculiarities of a country's cuisine. This kind of tourism in Russia is only beginning to grow and there are no purely gastronomic tours as such. However, elements of gastronomic tourism are often included in regular tour programs. An acquaintance with Russian cuisine happens when tourists visit the best of Russian national restaurants, where Russian traditions of preparing, serving and consuming food are kept in respect. In some regions such as Yaroslavl region programs like "A Dinner in Russian House" are offered to tourists. They are organized at real village houses where the hosts welcome guests according to Russian traditions. The mistress bakes bread in the oven herself, fetches pickles from the cellar, bakes potatoes from her own potato garden, kills and fries a pig. One of the advantages of this gastronomic tour is that all the products used are ecologically clean. Visits to wineries with wine tasting are also popular among tourists. Excursions to wineries are especially popular in Krasnodarsky Krai, where they grow grapes of local and European types.
Since Russia is one of the most visited countries in the world, you can travel there without any anxiety about being misunderstood - tourist industry in Russia is developing with enormous rates, which means that you will not suffer from bad attitude towards you. The rule "the client is always right" works in Russia, too. The services provided to those who travel to Russia can compete with those in Europe or the USA.
